Introduction
Recent years have seen a paradigm shift in operational and management aspects of successful entrepreneurship and value addition within an enterprise. They have been shifted from simple introduction of new ideas and product development to collaborative nature of innovation, in terms of products, processes and services. Innovation has been transformed into open innovation rather than closed innovation, which seems more traditional. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play a critical role in this transformation of innovation strategies for business promotion, value gain and economic empowerment of a country. However, little is known on how open innovation is implemented in SMEs and what are the challenges and benefits associated.
