IGI Global's Journal of Database Management Recognized as a Top-Ten Journal in its Discipline

Thomson Scientific Computes Impact Factor® of 2.121

IGI Global's Journal of Database Management (JDM) has been placed among the top ten peer reviewed serials in its discipline and continues to hold the number one spot (since 2006) in its immediacy index within both the computer science/information systems and computer science/software engineering disciplines, according to newly released metrics from Thomson Scientific, publisher of the most widely recognized ranking system for scholarly journals.

"I am very pleased and proud to announce that JDM has achieved an impact factor of 2.121 and an immediacy index of 1.368 for 2008," said Dr. Keng Siau, PhD, JDM's Editor-in-Chief. "This is better than 2007 and we have been improving the past few years,” he said. “JDM is still ranked First in Immediacy Index in the two categories that JDM is listed."

Created by Thomson Scientific (formerly the Institute for Scientific Information [ISI]), the Impact Factor is a widely recognized classification of a journal's influence and reputation within the scholarly community, based on the ratio, during a defined period of years, of citations of a journal's articles to the total number of articles published. The Immediacy Index, another Thomson Scientific metric that indicates the current relevance and urgency of a journal based on citations that appear the same year an article was originally published.

"As always, it is good to receive such good news about the impact factor and immediacy index regarding JDM," said Dr. Mehdi Khosrow-Pour, D.B.A., IGI Global's President and Publisher. "We are very pleased with this new height and would like to thank Dr. Siau for all his efforts, dedication and commitment to this journal."

Published by IGI Global since 1990, JDM compiles innovative research on all aspects of database management, systems analysis and design, and software engineering. Consolidating three different types of articles, including Research Papers, Research Notes, and Research Reviews, JDM provides information technology scholars, researchers, and practitioners with a unique, multi-faceted view of the theory and practice of information technology and the management of information resources.
