Simon Andrews

Simon Andrews is a Reader in Applied Computer Science at Sheffield Hallam University, UK and co-leader of the Conceptual Structures Research Group. He is the Technical Lead for CENTRIC (Centre of excellence in terrorism, resilience, intelligence & organised crime research). His PhD was awarded in 1996 by the Department of Computing, Sheffield Hallam University. Bringing his expertise in Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), he is a Principal Investigator for a prestigious European Commission 7th Framework Programme project, called CUBIST: http://www.cubist-project.eu/, where he is working on leading-edge, large-scale, data analysis techniques. These techniques include knowledge discovery, visual analytics, data optimisation and semantic conversion. Working with a range of public and private data sets, including those from local government, biomedical research, satellite telemetry and human resources, he is developing algorithms, techniques and software to elicit hidden meaning from data that is not accessible using traditional data analysis techniques.
