Google has hired a lobbyist to promote legislation in Nevada that would allow the licensing and testing of autonomous vehicles and permit the operators of autonomous vehicles to legally send text messages while the car is in motion.

This technology still seems to be far from mass production, but Google is paving the way to make this an effective and legal technology that could eventually increase the energy efficiency of vehicles while decreasing the number of car accidents.
