Editor/Author Biographies
Pedro Furtado works as assistant professor of computer sciences at the University of Coimbra, where he teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, mostly in data management related areas. He is also an active researcher in the Systems and Software Engineering Group of the CISUC research laboratory. His research interests include data warehousing and mining, parallel and distributed database systems, with a focus on performance and scalability and data management in distributed data intensive systems. He received a PhD in computer science from the University of Coimbra (Portugal, 2000). He has a large number of research papers published in international journals, book chapters, and international conference proceedings, mostly in the subjects of parallel and distributed data warehousing. In his professional activities he also has had experiences with consultancy and in leading national research projects, as well as participating in European projects in the areas of parallel data management, quality of service in distributed systems, and wireless sensor networks. He also has a large experience with reviewing, having served on editorial boards of books and journals, as well as on program committees of international conferences.
