Description & Coverage
Description:

Modern devices, from phones and cars to houses and the appliances within them, are being designed with formidable computational power and expanded functionality. To be truly effective, these smart devices must effectively process data from their environment and experiences and make decisions based on that information.

Recent Advances in Ambient Intelligence and Context-Aware Computing investigates the functionality of ubiquitous computational systems and how they may adapt to their environment to improve the quality of interaction for the end-user. This reference book will be of value to under- and post-graduate students, professionals, and researchers in networking, computer science, communications, and other information technology disciplines.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Assistive Technologies
  • Collaborative Learning Applications
  • Energy Management
  • Human-Computer Interaction
  • Intelligent Environments
  • Mobile Health Monitoring
  • Wearable Computing
Reviews & Statements

Computer scientists and engineers explore ways that computers and related devices can be made more aware of their users' contexts and desires in order to serve them better. The topics include a camera-based system for determining hand range-of-movement measurements in rheumatoid arthritis, human behavior recognition in ambient intelligent environments, smart home energy management, social network analysis approaches and their impact, a literacy and numeracy electronic learning mobile application for pre-schoolers, and light therapy in smart healthcare facilities for older adults.
