Editor/Author Biographies
Tamio Shimizu earned his BS degree in Mathematics from University of São Paulo. He holds a M.Sc. from Aeronautical Institute of Technology, São José dos Campos and a Ph.D in Production Engineering from Polytechnic School of University of São Paulo. His research interests are Information Technology, Intelligent Manufacturing Systems and Decision Support Systems. During the past several years he was Professor in the Aeronautical Institute of Technology, São José dos Campos and Professor and the Head of the Department of Production Engineering, Polytechnic School - University of São Paulo, until 2003. He belonged to the board of Executive Director of Fundação Carlos Alberto Vanzolini. He was an IBM fellow at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Union College in the USA. He participated in a research exchange program between Brazilian and German governments. He was a visiting fellow of University of Tokio sponsored by Japan International Cooperation Agency. Currently, he is a Full Professor of the Department of Production Engineering, Polytechnic School - University of São Paulo.
Marly Monteiro de Carvalho is PhD professor at Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo, since1992. She holds Production Engineering degree (São Carlos Engineering School- University of São Paulo), M.Sc. and Ph.D in the same area (University of Santa Catarina). She is the research coordinator of QEP Quality and Product Engineering Group of CNPq (a Federal Research Agency). She was a visiting fellow at Polytechnic of Milan sponsored by a State Government Research Agency (FAPESP). She participated in a program entitled international top management on quality leadership, sponsored by SIDA- Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. She was researcher in a project of Quality Control on Textile Industry, sponsored by Organization of American States - OAS Paris in France. She belongs to the board of Technical Director of ABEPRO- Production Engineering Brazilian Association and editor of the Brazilian Journal call “Revista Produção”. During several years she was also researcher at Technological Research Institute of São Paulo State (1992-2000).
Fernando José Barbin Laurindo is professor at Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo, since1997. He holds Production Engineering degree (Polytechnic School of University of São Paulo). He is M.Sc. and Ph.D in Production Engineering from Polytechnic School of University of São Paulo. He is also graduate in Law (University of São Paulo) and made Extension Course in Business Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas. He was a visiting fellow at Polytechnic of Milan sponsored by a State Government Research Agency (FAPESP). He belongs to Information Technology Management Group (GTI) of the Production Engineering Department. He is the research vice-coordinator of GTI group (listed in CNPq - a Federal Research Agency Research Group). Currently, he belongs to the board of Executive Director of Fundação Carlos Alberto Vanzolini. During more than ten years, he worked in Information Technology, Project and Product Management in companies of the industrial, financial and service sectors.
