Introduction
The concept of wireless data transmission revolutionized the way people communicate and exchange information. It assumed paramount importance in defense applications where it is impossible or impractical to implement transmission with the use of wires. Currently, the industry accepts a handful of different wireless technologies. Each wireless technology is defined by a standard that describes unique functions at both the Physical and the Data Link layers of the OSI Model. The development of the wireless technology heralded the growth of wireless sensor network consisting of spatial distributed autonomous sensors initially deployed to monitor physical or environmental conditions and to pass their data through the network to a main location. The more modern networks are bi-directional, capable of controlling the activity of the sensors.

Objective
The key areas of focus in Wireless Applications and Technologies are the design, implementation and optimization of data handling in wireless network and integration issues in bringing various protocols to operate seamlessly in a given topology; challenges in the design and implementation of wireless sensor networks; data loss and data redundancy in networks; energy management issues both in networks and in remote sensors network; and signal processing issues.

Introduction
Computational modelling is one of the most significant developments in the practice of scientific inquiry in the 20th century. In the past century, scientific research has been extraordinarily successful in identifying the fundamental physical laws that govern our material world. At the same time, the advances promised by the discoveries is not been fully realized, because the real world systems governed by these physical laws are extraordinarily complex. Advanced computational modelling in engineering and management is a current research trend and various researchers started contributing in this field.

Objective
The main objective of the special issue on “Computational Modelling in Engineering and Management” focuses on application of computational modelling and optimization in various disciplines of engineering and management in solving various issues in manufacturing and services industry. The special issue is intended for revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers submitted at International Conference on Modelling, Optimisation and Computing (ICMOC 2012) on 10th and 11th  April 2012 jointly organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Noorul Islam College of Engineering, Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education, Noorul Islam University, Kumaracoil, Thuckalay, Kanyakumari District, Pincode - 629180, Tamilnadu, India and Management School, University of Sheffield, Sheffield S10 2TN, United Kingdom. However, we also encourage other researchers to submit their manuscripts to this special issue.
