Guidelines for Case Submissions To download a copy of these guidelines, click here MISSION Journal of Cases on Information Technology (JCIT)is an international refereed journal whose mission is to provide understanding and lessons learned in regard to all aspects of information technology utilization and management in modern organizations. The primary mission of cases published in JCIT is for teaching purposes both in undergraduate and graduate information systems courses. JCIT also strives to publish cases that can be instrumental to Information Systems managers to learn from the success and pitfalls of other organizations related to IT utilization and management. COVERAGE The Journal of Cases on Information Technology documents comprehensive actual REAL-LIFE cases based on individual, organizational and societal experiences related to the utilization and management of information technology. Cases published in JCIT deal with a wide variety of organizations, such as business settings, government organizations, educational institutions, library settings, and nonprofit organizations. Additionally, cases published in JCIT report not only successful utilization of IT applications, but also failures and mismanagement of IT resources and applications. Topics covered include (but are not limited to): Distance Learning; Legal Issues of IT; End User Computing: IT in Developing Countries; Web-Enabled Technologies; IT in Government; Human Side of IT; Issues of Emerging Technology; Internet Technologies; Multimedia in Education; Data Management; IT in Libraries; E-commerce Technologies; Information Security and Ethics; and many more topics/issues.ORIGINALITY Only original and previously unpublished cases will be considered for review and possible publication in JCIT. Also, simultaneous submissions are not allowed and submission of a case for review is interpreted as a statement by the author(s) that the case is not currently under review by another journal, periodical, book or other copyrighted publication, and that no part of the case is copyrighted by any other publications. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the author to obtain and acknowledge permission for the use of any copyrighted material in the case prior to the submission of the case. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the author(s) to obtain written permission from the organization that the submitted case is based for the use of their name, data or any trademark products or services that are referred to in the case, should the author(s) choose to use the real organization, products, or service names.REFERENCE STYLE Submitted cases must be written in the American Psychological Association (APA) editorial style. References should relate only to material cited within the manuscript and be listed in alphabetical order, including the author’s name, complete title of the cited work, title of the source, volume, issue, year of publication and pages cited. Please do not include any abbreviations. See the following examples: Example 1: Single author periodical publication.

State author's name and year of publication where you use the source in the text. See the following examples: Example 1: In most organizations, data resources are considered to be a major resource. (Brown, 2005; Smith, 2005). Example 2: Example 2: Brown (2004) states that the value of data is recognized by most organizations. The author’s name, date of publication, and the page(s) on which the quotation appears in the original text should follow direct quotations of another author’s work. See the following examples: Example 1: Brown (2005) states that “the value of data is realized by most organizations” (p. 45). Example 2: In most organizations, “database resources are considered to be a major organization asset” (Smith, 2004, pp. 35-36) and must be carefully monitored by the senior management. REVIEW PROCESS Each case will be double-blind, peer reviewed by at least four reviewers. Criteria for selection are originality, quality, conciseness and relevance to the published aims of JCIT. The reviewers may accept or reject the case, or suggest revisions. In any case, authors will be provided with a copy of the reviewers’ comments. Return of a case to the author for revision does not guarantee acceptance of the revised case for publication. The final decision will be based on the comments of the reviewers upon their second review of the revised case. The review process will take approximately 12-16 weeks. COPYRIGHT Authors are asked to sign an “Author’s Warranty and Transfer of Copyright Agreement” upon acceptance of their case before the case can be published. All copyrights, including translation of the published material into other languages, are reserved by the publisher, Idea Group Inc. Upon transfer of the copyright to the publisher, no part of the case may be reproduced in any form without written permission of the publisher. Authors of accepted cases are expected to provide copies of written permission obtained from the company whose direct names and products were referenced in the case. SUBMISSION PROCESS Authors are invited to submit their full case in English, the official language of JCIT, to jcit@igi-global.com. Again, only original and previously unpublished manuscripts as specified in the originality guidelines above will be considered. Cases should be submitted electronically to the Editor-in-Chief in Microsoft Word format. Cases must follow the APA style guidelines specified above, as well as the Journal’s Case Organization Guidelines. Submissions must start with a title page that includes the title of the case. The author’s name SHOULD NOT be included in the title page or anywhere else in the case. The author’s name, affiliation, address and telephone number must be included in the e-mail message accompanying the case submission. LENGTH AND ACCURACY The length of your submission, including references and appendix items, should not exceed 7,500 words although the publisher reserves the right to impose an additional limit on the length of the final accepted submission. It is strongly recommended that a basic editing of the case be conducted to ensure proper language usage and correctness of grammar and punctuation. Please Spell Check your case prior to its submission. Attention to these details will contribute to the clear, concise meaning of your ideas and also assist reviewers of your case to provide a fair and effective review of the submitted case. CORRESPONDENCE All correspondence will be directed to the first author of multi-authored cases. It is the responsibility of the first author to communicate with the other author(s). Upon the submission of the full case, the editor will provide an acknowledgment of the receipt of the case. If the submitted case follows the submission guidelines correctly, the formal review process as outlined above will start immediately, and the author will be notified about the outcome of the review process upon its completion. IF YOUR CASE IS ACCEPTED Authors of accepted cases will be required to provide: a final copy of their manuscript sent electronically as an attachment in Microsoft Word, a hard copy of the manuscript, a signed copy of the “Author’s Warranty and Transfer of Copyright Agreement”, and the required Case Support Material, including Questions and Answers, Epilogue and Lessons Learned, and Additional Resources. The accepted submission will be edited by the JCIT copyeditor for format and style. Upon completion of typesetting, the edited, typeset case will be sent to the author for proofreading.
