IGI Global Awards the 2011 InfoSci®-Journals Distinguished Fellowship to Dr. Felix B. Tan, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Global Information Management

IGI Global is honored to award the 2011 InfoSci®-Journals Distinguished Fellowship to Dr. Felix Tan, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Global Information Management (JGIM). The InfoSci®-Journals Distinguished Fellowship recognizes an editor-in-chief for enriching the information science community through the dissemination of innovative research and excellent leadership of his journal.

In order to qualify for this honor, an editor-in-chief must exhibit a record of success in raising citation, visibility, and scholarship of their journal. The distinguished editor-in-chief must also secure an adequate quantity of submissions from leading authors and publish each journal issue on a timely basis. In addition, the fellowship honors exceptional work towards gaining recognition of the journal in top indices.

This year, JGIM received its first five-year impact factor, calculated at an impressive 1.829, from Thomson Reuters. This is a huge milestone for the esteemed journal and represents the longevity of its quality research. Since its inaugural year in 1993, JGIM has published original material concerned with all aspects of global information resources management. JGIM is the primary forum for researchers and practitioners to disseminate the evolving knowledge in the theory and practice related to information technology and management of information resources at the international level. The journal emphasizes the managerial and organizational facets of information technology resources management. Articles published in JGIM deal with a vast number of issues concerning usage, failure, success, policies, strategies, and applications of information technology in organizations in and across developed, emerging, and developing nations. For more information on this journal, please visit www.igi-global.com/jgim.

In addition to JGIM’s five-year impact factor recognition, the journal also celebrated an increase of its standard impact factor. The journal’s original impact factor rose to 1.222. The Impact Factor, created by Thomson Reuters (formerly the Institute for Scientific Information [ISI]) is a widely recognized classification of a journal’s influence and reputation within the scholarly community. The impact factor is based on the ratio of citations of a journal’s articles to the total number of articles published during a defined period of years.

Dr. Mehdi Khosrow-Pour, D.B.A., IGI Global's President and CEO acknowledges Dr. Tan’s accomplishments, saying, “As 2012 will mark the Journal of Global Information Management’s 20th anniversary, we are very pleased with Dr. Tan’s achievements and would like to thank him for his dedication and commitment to JGIM as Editor-in-Chief for the last 17 years.”
