The expectations of citizens in delivery
of services by government institutions have increased over the
last decade. Dr. Susheel Chhabra, Lal Bahadur Shastri
Institute of Management (India) and editor of the upcoming
book Integrating E-Business Models for Government
Solutions: Citizen-Centric Service Oriented Methodologies and
Processes, believes
governments should pay attention to this change in
demand.
“Today’s competitive and dynamic
environment has redefined the ways the governments should
respond to the needs of its various stakeholders,” says
Chhabra. “In order to synchronize with this vibrant
environment, the governments should make themselves ready to
develop and deploy unique business models.”
Dr. Chhabra suggests governments employ a
citizen-centric e-business model to generate value from
e-government initiatives and best reach the varying needs of
its stakeholders.
“The availability and effective delivery
of e-government services is required to satisfy the demands of
citizens. Without a suitable performance management mechanism
in the public sector, effective delivery of e-government
services can not be ensured.”
Dr. Chhabra is currently engaged in a
research project to develop an integrated e-government
organizational performance as well as service quality
framework using a case study of Haryana state in India. The
objective of this research study is to enhance efficiency and
effectiveness of services provided to citizens through citizen
service centers as front-end and government departments as
back-end.
