Held from September 16th-18th at the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Tropentag is a development-oriented and interdisciplinary conference. It addresses issues of resource management, environment, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food, nutrition and related sciences in the context of rural development, sustainable resource use and poverty alleviation worldwide.

The theme of this year's conference was "Management of Land Use Systems for Enhanced Food Security- Conflicts, Controversies and Resolutions". The number of participants was over 1000 from 62 countries, the highest number of attendees to date. Dr. Evans Osabuohien's workshop was on Large-scale Land Investments in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and was held on 16th September 2015 as an integral part of the Tropentag 2015 Conference. It featured the launch of his IGI Global title the Handbook of Research on In-Country Determinants and Implications of Foreign Land Acquisitions. The event included presentations from Dr. Osabuohien, three cases presented by chapter contributors, and commentary from a book reviewer, followed by a discussion session. Another important feature of the event was a panel discussion involving representatives and policy makers including the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany and an officer from The German Agency for International Cooperation-GIZ (an arm of the German Federal Ministry Economic Cooperation and Development-BMZ) as well as other academia. The workshop was oversubscribed and had more participants than anticipated.

The next Tropentag conference is scheduled to be held in Vienna, Austria, from the 19th to the 21st of September 2016.
