IGI Global Editor Travels To MyanmarDr. James Osler
In honor of Dr. Patricia Cranton's exemplary contributions and remarkable achievements in research, IGI Global has reinstated the Outstanding Scholars Program in her honor. The Outstanding Scholars Program will continue to honor editors and authors of outstanding merit, encouraging discoverability and connecting researchers with the greater global community. Like Dr. Cranton, these scholars are the driving force behind modern academic inquiry and research innovation. By recognizing these individuals for their commendable work and effort, IGI Global seeks to continue in their mission of disseminating knowledge to the worldwide academic community.

1.) Tell us about yourself. How did you become involved with IGI Global?

Thanks to dynamic researchers that I collaborate with in the academy, I became aware of IGI Global and all you have to offer. I am really impressed, not just with your research acumen but also with your outstanding outreach. Many of the publications that I have produced through and with IGI Global have increased my ability to work with other researchers globally due to the excellent outreach of IGI Global publications.

2.) Why do you choose IGI Global as your publisher?

I choose to work with IGI Global because of: 1.) Its aforementioned outstanding outreach within the academic community; 2.) The respect that IGI Global publications garnishes within the academy; and 3.) The ability to collaborate and correspond with like-minded scholarly professionals who share similar research agendas. If I were to add a fourth reason--it would be due to IGI Global's great diversity of timely titles, that are on such a wide-diversity of topics (it is mind-boggling to go through the IGI Global catalog, there is something there on nearly everything you can think of).

3.) How do you achieve success in regards to your publication? How do you increase the chances for positive reviews and indexing?

I achieve success by simply partnering with academic refereed publications that have a large scale in terms of outreach and an overall strong impact factor. For example, by partnering with IGI Global I greatly increase the validity, reliability, and reach of my publication(s). This in turn, (in deference to the second part of this question) greatly increases the chances for positive reviews and indexing by online search engines and online impact factor analysis tools.

4.) What do you require from your title contributors to maintain and build your publication’s reputation?

In terms of a publication's reputation I require from the contributors the following: documented expertise in their specified area of knowledge or corresponding subject matter or field; demonstrated leadership in the content area on and in which they are publishing; and finally an ongoing willingness to present their findings and share the publication with libraries and conferences to continue to "push forward the body of knowledge" concerning the area in which we have published together.

5.) How can other researchers maximize the exposure and increase the likelihood of indexing for their publications? What resources are required?

Other researchers can harness their institution's resources (library, classrooms, online learning resources, workshops, professional development area(s) and opportunities, and colloquiums/seminars) to present, share, and maximize the exposure and increase the likelihood of indexing for their respective publications.

6.) Do you execute personal promotions to support your publications? What specifically?

Yes. I conduct talks, presentations, discussions in a variety of formats to promote the research that I have conducted. It is my personal belief that once we enter into the realm of higher education that we are obligated to produce and share the outcomes and fruits of our research. In this way we inspire, teach, and reach others who can collaborate and share or one day also push forward the body of knowledge in terms of research. Who knows what new ideas may be generated because of the research and work that we create, produce, and share. The "information age" has greatly increased our ability to share and disseminate our inquiries and finding with others.
A sincere thanks to Dr. James Osler for his outstanding merit and innovative research. Please take a moment to view the title Cheating: Digital Learning Activities and Challenges. He also contributed to the "Educational Technology Assessment: A Model for Analyzing Online Psychometric Tests for Course Evaluations" chapter within the Handbook of Research on Educational Technology Integration and Active Learning.
