Thomson Reuters Computes Impact Factor of 1.222 for JGIM

By IGI Global on Aug 12, 2011
IGI Global, an information science and technology publisher, is proud to share the news of the recently released and upgraded impact factor for one of its most authoritative journals, the Journal of Global Information Management (JGIM) (Editor-in-Chief: Felix B. Tan, Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand). Thomson Reuters, publisher of the most widely recognized ranking system for scholarly journals, has computed an impact factor of 1.222 for the journal.

According to the most recent statistics from the 2010 Journal Citation Reports, JGIM's five-year impact factor has been announced for the first time and calculated at 1.829, indicating the longevity of the quality literature published in the journal.

The Impact Factor, created by Thomson Reuters (formerly the Institute for Scientific Information [ISI]) is a widely recognized classification of a journal's influence and reputation within the scholarly community. The impact factor is based on the ratio of citations referencing a journal's articles to the total number of articles published during a defined period of years. The Immediacy Index is another Thomson Reuters metric that indicates the current relevance and urgency of a journal based on citations that appear the same year in which an article was originally published.

"I am very pleased to announce that the Journal of Global Information Management has attained an impact factor of 1.222 and more interestingly, it achieved a 5-year impact factor of 1.829," said Dr. Felix Tan, JGIM's Editor-in-Chief. "This commonly means that JGIM requires a longer time for its publications to be read and cited, implying that the journal's published works may be more durable over time."

Since its inaugural year in 1993, JGIM has published original material concerned with all aspects of global information resources management. JGIM is the primary forum for researchers and practitioners to disseminate the evolving knowledge in the theory and practice related to information technology and management of information resources at the international level. The journal emphasizes the managerial and organizational facets of information technology resources management. Articles published in JGIM deal with a vast number of issues concerning usage, failure, success, policies, strategies, and applications of information technology in organizations in and across developed, emerging, and developing nations.
