IGI Global and Supporting Data

Open Access to Data Sets

IGI Global strongly believes that providing open access to data sets, in support of research efforts, is extremely important in the continuing dissemination of knowledge among the academic community. To this end, we encourage all of our research contributors to submit supporting datasets to centralized repositories specific to their fields of research. The growth of these highly available repositories extends the knowledgebase for the entire research community. In an effort to promote the sharing of research data sets, we also continue to grow our own data set repository and offer open access freely to data sets within our website as well as on our award-winning InfoSci® platform.

How to Submit Data Sets

While it is not a condition of publication for research contributors to dedicate a section within their manuscript that exclusively focuses on supporting data, IGI Global strongly encourages the integration of clearly defined sections indicating the inclusion of “Data Sets.” The“Data Sets” section should be placed immediately before the “References” section. These sections should be comprised of permanent links to the data supporting the research, with the objective of making it clear to readers where they can access this data. The links should only be included if linking to data that is available in an open access repository or included as additional files submitted with the manuscript.

How to Properly Cite Data Sets

If a data set is taken from an outside source and is not the author’s own creation, the data set must be properly cited wherever appropriate in the manuscript. Additionally, a full reference citation should be included within the references list for each data set. For information on how to properly cite data sets in APA style, please see our APA guidelines: http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/apa-citation-guidelines/#data-sets

Submitting Data to Centralized Repositories

The list of global centralized data repositories is constantly growing. As there are thousands of data repositories linked to institutions worldwide in a multitude of research areas, IGI Global encourages research contributors to consult the repositories most relevant to their area of research.
