Global Strategy and Practice of e-Governance: Examples from Around the World
A book edited by Dr. Danilo Piaggesi, Dr. Kristian J. Sund and Dr. Walter Castelnovo
Introduction
Over the past decade there has been a continual development and renewal of strategies and practices surrounding e-governance. Governments around the world have embraced new information and communication technologies to increase the efficiency of internal processes, deliver better and more integrated services to citizens and businesses, invite citizen and stakeholder participation in planning decisions, improve communication, and sometimes even enhance democratic processes. At a time when best practice examples exist across all continents, at both the strategy and policy levels, as well as at the actual practical implementation level, we propose to take stock of current global best practice, and prepare a book that can guide politicians, policymakers, economists, civil servants, suppliers, consultants, practitioners, and academics through the increasingly thick jungle of e-governance.
Objective of the Book
This book will aim to provide readers with an overview of relevant strategy and policy-level theoretical frameworks and examples, as well as up-to-date implementations from around the world. Readers will gain valuable insights into best practices, as well as some of the issues and challenges surrounding the governance of and with information and communication technologies in a globalized, knowledge-based world. It will be written mainly for practitioners and professionals, but also be useful to academics, who want to improve their understanding of the strategic implementation of e-governance at different levels of the information and knowledge society.
Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of politicians, policymakers, civil servants, and professionals at all levels of government around the world, as well as to service companies engaging with government in the technology area. Researchers and students studying aspects of e-governance will also find the book of great interest. These aspects may be linked to various disciplines (e.g. library, information and communication sciences, public administration, political science, administrative sciences and management, education, adult education, sociology, computer science, and information technology). Moreover, the book will provide insights and support executives concerned with the management of technology projects or information and organizational development in different types of organizations, communities and environments.
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 31, 2009, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by January 10, 2010 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by March 31, 2010. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
