Augustine Chioma Affam

Augustine Chioma Affam is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering Technology, University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS), Malaysia. Earlier in 2014 until 2015, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Barhu, Malaysia. He obtained his B. Eng. degree in Soil and Water Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria, in 2006 and his Masters of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2010. He later proceeded to study his PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization in Environmental Engineering at the Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia, from where he graduated in 2014. Dr Augustine initially had a stint with the oil and gas industry for over 4 years as a quality control and assurance expert. His research interest is in the areas of artificial intelligence in environmental engineering, waste and wastewater treatment, low-cost water treatment for supply to communities, and biological and biotechnological treatment of wastewater for reuse. He has successfully supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students. To date, he has published over 50 scientific refereed articles in Journals and international conference proceedings (SCOPUS and ISI indexed inclusive), 1 edited book and 5 book Chapters in refereed international books, and equally leads a number of research grants and consultancy services. Dr Augustine continues to serve as a peer reviewer for more than 10 international journals. He also serves as a Managing Editor of the Journal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Sustainability (JASES) and Editorial Board Member of Borneo Journal of Science and Technology (BJoST). He is a member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), United Kingdom (UK), Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and International Engineers Association (IEA).

Handbook of Research on Resource Management for Pollution and Waste Treatment
Augustine Chioma Affam, Ezerie Henry Ezechi. © 2020. 795 pages.
It is necessary to understand the extent of pollution in the environment in terms of the air, water, and soil in order for both humans and animals to live healthier lives. Poor...
Application of Graded Limestone as Roughing Filter Media for the Treatment of Leachate
Augustine Chioma Affam, Ezerie Henry Ezechi. © 2020. 44 pages.
This chapter examined limestone performance as a roughing media for pollutant removal from leachate using a filtration column. Limestone with a density of 2554 kg/m3 was crushed...
Biological Nutrient Removal by Suspended Growth Systems
Ezerie Henry Ezechi, Augustine Chioma Affam, Khalida Muda. © 2020. 30 pages.
Nutrients contribute to the wellbeing of water bodies. However, excessive enrichment of water bodies by nutrients could harm aquatic organisms. Some of the severe environmental...
Classical Fenton and Sequencing Batch Reactor Treatment of Pesticide Wastewater
Augustine Chioma Affam, Ezerie Henry Ezechi, Malay Chaudhuri. © 2020. 31 pages.
This chapter examined Fenton and sequencing batch reactor (SBR) treatment of pesticide industrial wastewater. The optimum operating conditions for Fenton pretreatment of the...
Principles of Electrocoagulation and Application in Wastewater Treatment
Ezerie Henry Ezechi, Augustine Chioma Affam, Khalida Muda. © 2020. 28 pages.
Electrocoagulation has emerged a reliable technology for the treatment of various wastewaters. Its basic principle depends on the response of water particles to strong electric...
Comparative Study of Advance Oxidation Processes for Treatment of Pesticide Wastewater
Augustine Chioma Affam, Malay Chaudhuri. © 2019. 63 pages.
This study compared the amount of catalyst and energy efficiency required for operation of five advanced oxidation processes (Fenton, UV photo-Fenton, solar photo-Fenton...
