Johnson Utu Kitheka

Johnson U. Kitheka is an environmental consultant holding BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Geography and Hydrology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the research, assessment and monitoring of both coastal marine and freshwater resources. Dr. Kitheka has also participated in the implementation of several projects such as the NUFFIC NICHE Capacity building project at the South Eastern Kenya University and the UNEP-GEF Project focused on addressing the impacts of land-based activities in the Western Indian Ocean Basin. He is also experienced in Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA), Integrated River Basin and Coastal Zone Management, Strategic Action Programmes on land based interventions and National Action Plans for coastal natural resources management. Dr. Kitheka has also published widely in refereed international scientific journals. He has previously worked with the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute as a Senior Research Officer and the United Nations Environment Programme as an Environmental Scientist and is currently the Dean of the School of Water Resources Science and Technology of South Eastern Kenya University.
