Nick Antonopoulos is currently the Head of School of Computing and Assistant Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Business, Computing & law at the University of Derby, UK. Prior to joining Derby he was a Senior Lecturer (US Associate Professor) at the Department of Computing, University of Surrey, UK. He holds a BSc in Physics (1st class) from the University of Athens in1993, an MSc in Information Technology from Aston University in 1994 and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Surrey in 2000. Before joining the academia he has worked as a networks consultant and was the co-founder and director of a company developing Web-based management information systems. He has over 10 years of academic experience during which he has designed and has been managing advanced Masters programmes in computer science at the University of Surrey. He has published about 70 articles in fully refereed journals and international conferences. He has received a number of best paper awards in conferences and graduated 6 PhD students. He was the organiser and chair of the 1st International Workshop on Computational P2P networks and the 1st International Workshop on Service-Oriented P2P Networks (as part of IEEE Symposium in Cluster Computing and the Grid, CCGrid 2009). He is currently the organiser and chair of the 1st International Conference on Advances in P2P Systems to take place in Malta, October 2009, sponsored by IEEE. He is on the editorial board of the Springer journal of Peer-to-Peer Networking and Applications and on the advisory editorial board of the IGI Global Handbook of Research on Telecommunications Planning and Management for Business. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and a full member of the British Computer Society. His research interests include emerging technologies such as large scale distributed systems and peer-to-peer networks, software agent architectures and security.
