Ralph Hartsock

Ralph HartsockRalph Hartsock (B.A.--Music, MLS--Library Science), Senior Music Catalog Librarian for the University of North Texas Libraries, catalogs sheet music and audio recordings. He has published extensively on America’s avant garde composers, including the reference sources Otto Luening: a Bio-Bibliography (Greenwood Press, 1991), and Vladimir Ussachevsky: a Bio-Bibliography (Greenwood Press, 2000), the latter in collaboration with Carl Rahkonen. Hartsock has also published articles on Milton Babbitt and Edgard Varèse. He has contributed to reference sources on American history, cultural and political. These include articles in Women in the American Civil War (ABC-CLIO, 2008), American Countercultures (M.E. Sharpe, 2009), Revolts, Protests, Demonstrations, and Rebellions in American History (ABC-CLIO, 2011), Encyclopedia of Politics of the American West (CQ Press, 2013), Music in the Social and Behavioral Sciences: An Encyclopedia, (Sage, 2014), and The Social History of the American Family: An Encyclopedia, (Sage, 2014). Topics range from people (Fanny Crosby, Josephine Griffing, Ray Charles) to topics (Anti-War Music, Woodstock, National Anthems, Brooks-Baxter War). Hartsock has collaborated with Daniel Gelaw Alemneh writing articles, conference presentations, and poster sessions, on the relationship of electronic dissertations to music. He reviews books for American Reference Books Annual, Material Culture, Music Reference Services Quarterly, and Congregational Libraries Today.
