Abstract

The paper examines the editorial policies and pattern of Scopus impact factor (CiteScore). The authors extract the information from the journals about instructions for authors and calculate the impact of CiteScore on editorial policies. The authors pilot bivariate analysis to compare the methodological policy issues of high impact and low impact journals. There is no involvement of human participants; therefore, the current research does not require an ethical review. Results were published in peer-reviewed journals and related conferences. A limitation of this study is language bias due to the selection of English-only articles.

Introduction

Several journals in management science are facing challenges as replication crisis in experimental science and social psychology (Pratt, Kaplan, & Whittington, 2020). Recent research on dental articles observed several retractions due to academic misconduct with plagiarism and falsified information (Faggion Jr, Ware, Bakas, & Wasiak, 2018). Ethical policies are essential to ensure the credibility and the transparency of scientific journals (Alfonso et al., 2017).

Several biases originate from the methodological deficiencies and fail results accuracy. Another research on haematology journals found that Forty‐eight per cent (48%) do not follow the reporting guidelines such as MOOSE, QUOROM, PROSPERO and CARE. Transparency and quality of reporting are essential to maintain the journal's quality (Nicholls et al., 2016).

There are two-hundred (200) several reporting guidelines are mentioned inside EQUATOR Network (https://www.equator-network.org/), to improve the reliability and value of published health research literature (Ruy Carneiro et al., 2018). The recommendations of the ICMJE are a compilation of standards drawn up by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors for the standardisation of the ethics, planning and editing of manuscripts submitted for submission to biomedical journals. Several high-impact journals are not adhering ICMJE policies and frequently published unregistered trials (Gopal et al., 2018). The World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) is a voluntary global organisation of medical journal editors that possess the vital role to help editors to play an essential role in fostering global health (Winker, Ferris, & Editors (WAME), 2018). The researcher observed that several reporting guidelines used as a tool only to fulfil the criteria to publish and their application is superficial. There is no available research to compare the impact of reporting guidelines with an impact factor (CiteScore). They motivated the researcher to develop the protocol and planned to conduct the study.

Aims and Objectives

This study aims to understand Scopus's impact factor (CiteScore) with journal editorial policy and guidelines for authors for submitting their manuscript. Exploring the bibliometric indicators on human sexuality-related journals and understanding the relationship between impact factor and ethical issues and reporting guidelines are the main objective of the current study protocol.

Research Questions

  • 1.

Which journal has the highest adaptation of indicators or editorial policy in the journal relevant to human sex, sexual medicine or gender.

  • 2.

Is there any relationship between CiteScore and editorial policy?

  • 3.

Which countries journal are enforcing editorial policies on human sexuality journals.

Method

Study Design

The current study is designed as cross-sectional bibliometric indicators. The protocol developed as according to COS-STAP Statement (Kirkham et al., 2019).

Investigation Scope

The researcher will investigate the editorial policies on research articles/original articles (epidemiologic studies, observational cross-sectional studies, case-control studies, cohort studies, clinical trials, laboratory studies or studies in animals).

Search Strategy

The researcher will perform an electronic search of the Scimago Journal & Country Rank in 2021 by searching on sex, sexual medicine and gender.

Inclusion Criteria

  • 1.

Electronic journal indexed in the Scopus database.

  • 2.

Journal is mandatory to publish in English.
