Abstract

Recent urban sustainable development research on energy-environment-economy interplay has gained traction. This paper analyzes coupling, development mechanisms, and governance of these systems in central China cities. Findings show mutual reinforcement in sustainable growth, with fossil energy causing irreversible damage, necessitating a shift to renewables. Economic growth at the expense of ecology leads to degradation, limiting further progress. Strategies like energy transformation, industrial restructuring, and pollution control enhance air quality. Carbon caps and energy limits yield health benefits and show a negative correlation with economic benefits during low-carbon transitions. Low-carbon development is crucial for energy enterprises' future. Collaborative governance evaluation across systems is imperative for urban sustainability.
