TopIntroduction
The Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to transform global life into more efficient industries, connected cars, smart cities, and all components of the IoT equation. However, the application of technologies such as the Internet of things in agriculture can have the greatest impact. Precision agriculture is one of the popular IoT applications in the agricultural area (Donzia, 2019), agriculture has undergone many transformations and adopted many machines to improve the crop. Environmental parameters and soil, and monitoring of crop health are important factors for better quality yields. In recent years, there have been many technological developments in agriculture that have led to an increase in productivity and immunity of crops. (Ahmad, 2020) As an added benefit, they also improve the quality of life for farm workers by reducing heavy labor and tedious tasks.
The Smart connected components offer exponentially expanding opportunities, and capabilities that cut across and transcend traditional product boundaries. Smart, connected products have three core elements:
- •
Physical components: It comprises product’s mechanical and electrical parts. In a car, for example, these include engine block, tires, and batteries.
- •
Smart components: It comprises sensors, microprocessors, data storage, controls, software, and, typically, an embedded operating system and enhanced user interface.
- •
Connectivity components: It comprises ports, antennae, and protocols enabling wired or wireless connections with the product.
Motives
Governments, through their action plans, aim to harness all the tools to develop the agricultural sector due to their importance in enhancing the country's food security and diversifying the national economy to get rid of oil dependence, as well as reducing the imbalance in the trade balance.
With regard to the agricultural sector, the governments intend to promote agricultural investment and agricultural industries by harnessing all modern technologies, especially digital and related to the Internet of Things.
The plans relies mainly on eliminating bureaucracy that hinders economic activity by creating an advanced information system that provides a “one-stop shop” and transparency in all transactions.
The governments are also seeking to modernize the sector by strengthening information and statistical systems. The international food crises that have occurred in international markets in recent decades, including the 2007-2008 crisis, and then the subsequent economic crisis due to the Corona pandemic, have confirmed the sensitive nature of the issue of food security and its close connection. To maintain national security and sovereignty.
Where the strategic vision of the governments crystallized in the need to lay the foundations of the agricultural policy to reduce weaknesses and encourage the emergence of good and rational governance for agriculture and rural regions with the involvement and empowerment of all actors, whether public or private.
The modification of intervention tools and methods of support for agricultural and rural development aims to:
- •
Encouraging a stimulating and safe environment for farmers and active operators in the agro-food industries and establishing an appropriate support policy;
- •
developing and strengthening control tools and procedures;
- •
Developing the capacities of public institutions, bureaus and agricultural cooperatives to intervene in the implementation of development programs and control procedures.
