Description

The Computational Intelligence and its Applications (COMIA) Book Series encompasses all branches of artificial intelligence which are based on computation at some level such as artificial neural networks, evolutionary algorithms, case based reasoning, probabilistic reasoning, fuzzy systems, artificial immune systems, and agent based systems. This series publishes academic work based either on one of the computational intelligence techniques or on applications of these techniques to a field of human endeavor.

COMIA seeks to expand literature on the most influential aspects of computing that are directly affecting the state of global culture. Because computational intelligence applications are being used with greater frequency and importance, this series aims to provide a high-quality forum for further research in this field.

Editor(s) Biography

Lakhmi C. Jain, M.E., Ph.D., is Director/Founder of the Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering Systems (KES) Centre, located in the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia. He has initiated a postgraduate stream by research in the Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering systems area. Dr. Jain was the Technical Chair of the ETD2000 International Conference in 1995 and Publications Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Conference on Intelligent Information Systems in 1996.He also initiated the first International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Electronic Systems in 1997.This is now an annual event. His interests focus on the use of novel techniques such as knowledge-based systems, artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems, and genetic algorithms and the application of these techniques.

Colin Fyfe is an active researcher in Artificial Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, Artificial Immune Systems and Artificial Life having written over 250 refereed papers, several book chapters and two books. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering Systems and an Associate Editor of International Journal of Neural Systems. He currently supervises 6 PhD students and has been Director of Studies for 16 PhDs since 1998. He is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the International Computer Science Conventions group and a Committee member of the European Network of Excellence on Intelligent Technologies for Smart Adaptive Systems (EUNITE). He has been Visiting Researcher at the University of Strathclyde, the Riken Institute in Tokyo, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Visiting Professor at the University of Vigo, the University of Burgos, and the University of Salamanca, all in Spain.
Ngoc Thanh Nguyen works at Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland, and is the head of Knowledge Management Systems Department in the Faculty of Computer Science. His scientific interests consist of knowledge integration methods, collective intelligence, intelligent technologies for conflict resolution, inconsistent knowledge processing, multi-agent systems, and Elearning methods. He has edited 20 special issues in international journals, 10 books and 8 conference proceedings. He is the author of 4 monographs and about 190 other publications. Prof. Nguyen serves as Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Intelligent Information and Database Systems; Editor-in-Chief of two book series: Advances in Applied Intelligence Technologies and Computational Intelligence and its Applications for IGI Global Publishers (USA); Associate Editor of Neurocomputing, International Journal of Innovative Computing & Information Control, Journal of Information Knowledge System Management and KES Journal; and a Member of Editorial Review Boards of several other prestigious international journals. He has been General Chair or Program Chair of more than 10 international conferences. Prof. Nguyen has been selected as the Vice-President of International Society of Applied Intelligence (ISAI); In 2008 for his activities the President of Poland has rewarded Prof. Nguyen the Bronze Medal for Education.
