The aim of this book is to answer this question: How can teachers, librarians, school staff, and parents be empowered to counter the dominant narrative? The book illuminates the need for critical literacy in all areas of education, from the library to direct literacy instruction. Another overarching theme from this book is the need for critical literacy, especially in the age of misinformation and “Fake News.” Teachers, librarians, support staff, parents, and students need to learn the skills to interrogate all texts, to make new meaning, and to identify who is being left out of the conversation.
