Pandemic situations are unexpected. However, it brings diverse challenges and opportunities for companies, financial markets and for the economies. On the one hand, more risk and uncertainties appeared, yet on the other hand, it is an opportunity to reorganize and reinvent. Therefore, this book aims to understand the impact of pandemic situations in three aspects: companies, financial markets, and economy.

This book aims to share relevant knowledge on challenges and opportunities caused by the pandemic and their affect on economic and financial arenas. It will cover topics such as business models to understand how companies react to pandemic situations, as well as change their management and way of conducting business. Uncertainties and risk are other topics analyzed in order to see which risks have increased and how companies and economies have dealt with them or should deal with them using specific financial instruments or new strategies to eliminate or at least reduce them. The impact in the company’s value creation and financial performance, the capital structure, as well as the access to financial debt are other relevant topics. For example, the book explores how companies use different financial instruments to sustain the business and to deal with difficulties of payment when sales reduce and uncertainty increases the needs of capital. The financial markets topic, specific to listed firms, is also addressed, since every crisis has a huge impact in financial markets and financial investors’ perceptions and expectations, conditioning the availability of cash-flows to companies. Finally, the incentives given by the government, the role of the banks, the changes in legislation regarding the day-to-day life and the working of companies are analyzed, together with the countries’ dynamics, since the economy needs to adapt to the market as a whole.

Business managers, directors, shareholders, financial analysts, public decision makers, researchers, academicians, and students will all benefit from the topics covered in this book.
