Description & Coverage
Description:

It is necessary to understand the extent of pollution in the environment in terms of the air, water, and soil in order for both humans and animals to live healthier lives. Poor waste treatment or pollution monitoring can lead to massive environmental issues, such as diminishing valuable resources, and cause a significant negative impact on society. Solutions, such as reuse of waste and sustainable waste management, must be explored to prevent these adverse effects.

The Handbook of Research on Resource Management for Pollution and Waste Treatment is a collection of innovative research that examines waste and pollution treatment methods that can be adopted at local and international levels and examines appropriate resource management strategies for environmentally related issues. Featuring coverage on a wide range of topics such as soil washing, bioremediation, and runoff handling, this book is ideally designed for environmentalists, engineers, waste management professionals, natural resource regulators, environmental policymakers, scientists, academicians, researchers, and students seeking current research on viable resource management methods for the regeneration of their immediate environment.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Agricultural Materials
  • Air Pollution
  • Bioremediation
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Food Waste
  • Material Production
  • Microplastics

Editor/Author Biographies

Augustine Chioma Affam is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering Technology, University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS), Malaysia. Earlier in 2014 until 2015, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Barhu, Malaysia. He obtained his B. Eng. degree in Soil and Water Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria, in 2006 and his Masters of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2010. He later proceeded to study his PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization in Environmental Engineering at the Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia, from where he graduated in 2014. Dr Augustine initially had a stint with the oil and gas industry for over 4 years as a quality control and assurance expert. His research interest is in the areas of artificial intelligence in environmental engineering, waste and wastewater treatment, low-cost water treatment for supply to communities, and biological and biotechnological treatment of wastewater for reuse. He has successfully supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students. To date, he has published over 50 scientific refereed articles in Journals and international conference proceedings (SCOPUS and ISI indexed inclusive), 1 edited book and 5 book Chapters in refereed international books, and equally leads a number of research grants and consultancy services. Dr Augustine continues to serve as a peer reviewer for more than 10 international journals. He also serves as a Managing Editor of the Journal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Sustainability (JASES) and Editorial Board Member of Borneo Journal of Science and Technology (BJoST). He is a member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), United Kingdom (UK), Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and International Engineers Association (IEA).

Dr. Ezerie Henry Ezechi works with the Department of Water and Environmental Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Dr. Ezerie obtained his first degree at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria. He then proceeded for his Masters' and PhD degrees in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia. Dr. Ezerie is a recipient of numerous academic awards at various exhibitions for excellent research including International Invention, innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX), International Engineering Invention & Innovation Exhibition (i-ENVEX), Malaysian Road Conference Invention & Innovation Exhibition (MCR-IIE) and Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE). Dr. Ezerie also received the "Best Research Award" at the 35th Science & Engineering Design Exhibition (SEDEX35) UTP, Perak, Malaysia. Dr. Ezerie's primary research interest is in Environmental Engineering, water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, phytoremediation, bioremediation and renewable energy. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 scientific publications in this field. Dr. Ezerie is also an active peer reviewer for numerous reputable international journals in Environmental Engineering.
