Description & Coverage
Description:

In the evolving landscape of global defense, the demand for innovative materials that deliver superior performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability is pressing. Next-generation defense applications rely heavily on cutting-edge materials that offer a strategic edge. These materials must meet the requirements for strength, durability, thermal stability, and weight reduction while also being feasible for large-scale production and integration. Balancing performance with cost-effectiveness and manufacturability presents a critical challenge, driving research into composites, nanomaterials, and manufacturing techniques. This exploration of emerging materials may redefine the future capabilities of defense systems.

Innovative Materials for Next-Generation Defense Applications: Cost, Performance, and Mass Production explores advanced materials designed for modern defense technologies. It examines the properties required for these materials to meet the rigorous demands of defense applications, including high strength, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, thermal stability, and lightweight construction. This book covers topics such as material science, mass production, and biotechnology, and is a useful resource for business owners, engineers, biotechnologists, academicians, researchers, and material scientists.

Editor/Author Biographies
Onur Güler received a Ph.D. in 2022 from Karadeniz Technical University, Institute of Science, in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the same institution, where he continues his research in the field of composite materials. Dr. Güler's expertise includes enhancing the electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as the mechanical and wear resistance, of layered metallic powders produced through electroless plating methods. His postdoctoral research focuses on the characterization of coatings applied to improve wear resistance and on exploring the thermal energy storage properties of composite materials incorporating phase change materials. Dr. Güler has an h-index of 18, according to Web of Science, and has published over 60 articles in SCI-indexed journals.
Müslim Çelebi completed his Ph.D. in 2024 in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Institute of Science and Technology, Karadeniz Technical University, where he now works as a Research Assistant. His research focuses on the development and analysis of composite materials, particularly investigating the mechanical, wear, and corrosion properties of metal matrix composites produced by powder metallurgy. Additionally, Dr. Çelebi has expertise in enhancing mechanical and wear resistance through advanced coatings, as well as in high entropy alloys and biocomposite materials. With over 25 SCI-indexed publications and an h-index of 12 according to Web of Science, he has established a significant presence in his field.
Abdullah Hasan Karabacak is a PhD candidate at Karadeniz Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. He is currently working as a Research Assistant at the same institution and continues his research in the field of composite materials. Mr. Karabacak specializes in the study of mechanical, wear and corrosion properties of composite materials produced by powder metallurgy, as well as the machinability of composite materials. He is also working on his doctoral thesis in the field of ballistic and radiation absorption of composite armor materials. Mr. Karabacak has an h-index of 10 according to Web of Science and has published about 20 SCI indexed articles.
