Description & Coverage
Description:

Multirate signal processing techniques are widely used in many areas of modern engineering such as communications, digital audio, measurements, image and signal processing, speech processing, and multimedia.

Multirate Filtering for Digital Signal Processing: MATLAB Applications covers basic and advanced approaches in the design and implementation of multirate filtering. This authoritative volume considers the role of filters in multirate systems, provides efficient solutions of finite and infinite impulse response filters for sampling rate conversion, and discusses examples of multirate multilevel filter banks, offering a must-have book for practitioners and scholars in multirate signal processing.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Comb-based filters for sampling-rate conversion
  • Complementary filter pairs
  • Digital filters
  • Digital Signal Processing
  • Discrete-time signals and systems
  • FIR filters for sampling-rate conversion
  • Frequency-response masking techniques
  • IIR filters for sampling-rate conversion
  • Multirate filter banks
  • Multirate filtering
  • Multirate systems
  • Multirate techniques in filter design and implementation
Reviews & Statements

This book bridges the existing gap between the multirate filter theory and practice. It deeply introduces MATLAB® functions and commands in presenting and explaining various aspects of multirate filtering.

– Ljiljana Milic, University of Belgrade, Serbia

I would like to recommend this book to all those who are not familiar with multirate systems, efficient solutions of finite and infinite impulse response filters, sampling rate conversion, and multirate multilevel filter banks. I wish you enjoyable reading of this excellent book.

– J.Tasic, University of Ljubljana

I want to recommend this book to the practising engineer and to all universities of applied science. Moreover, it is very suitable for all kind of students and instructors, since it contains a lot of illustrative material to supplement the in-depth presentation and derivation of multirate filtering and systems in academia and research university.

– Professor Dr.-Ing. Heinz G. Göckler, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany

Most of the books on multirate filtering do not give illustrative examples using a powerful software tool like Matlab. This book focuses on the theory of multirate filtering, which is exemplified by means of Matlab applications. One of the distinctive contributions of the book is the significant number of carefully selected Matlab examples. This gives the reader a better understanding of the theory. The book covers the topic very well and there is no similar book on the market with a reasonable number of instructive examples for every topic discussed in the text. Each chapter contains a MATLAB exercise list. This book on multirate digital signal processing will become a landmark reference for researchers and practicing engineers as well as for MSc and PhD students.

– Miroslav D. Lutovac, University of Belgrade, Serbia

Editor/Author Biographies
Ljiljana D. Milic was born in Èaèak, Serbia, in 1939. She received the Dipl.-Eng., M. Sc. and D.Sc. degrees from the University of Belgrade in 1962, 1973 and 1978, respectively, all in electrical engineering. She spent the academic year 1974-1975 at Swiss Federal School of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland, where she worked as a research assistant.

Since 1962 she has been with Mihajlo Pupin Institute, Belgrade. She worked on computer applications to filter design and on the sensitivity and tolerances of electrical filters. Since 1979 she has dealt with digital signal processing, primarily in the domain of digital filters. She also treated the problems of real-time spectrum analysis and analog and digital filter banks. Dr. Miliæ was leader of numerous R&D projects and gave practical solutions that went into production. For several years she served as assistant director and from 1987-1990 as director of Telecommunication department of Mihajlo Pupin Institute. She was appointed Associate Professor (1991) and Professor (2003) in Digital Signal Processing at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade. She spent summers in 2002, 2003 and 2005 as a visiting professor at the Tampere International Center for Signal Processing (TICSP), Tampere University of Technology, Finland. Presently, she is a chief scientist in Mihajlo Pupin Institute and professor at the School of Electrical Engineering of Belgrade University.

Dr. Milic is the author of more than 140 scientific papers mainly in the field of digital signal processing, and the author of two text books in Serbian: "Recursive Digital Filters" (1982) and "Introduction to Digital Signal Processing" (1999). She is also the author of the book chapters and the editor for several scientific publications. Dr. Miliæ is a Senior Member of IEEE and a corresponding member of Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia.

Her current research interest is in digital filters, multirate signal processing, and DSP in communications.
