Editor/Author Biographies
Filipa M. Ribeiro is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto. She graduated in Journalism and Communication (2003) and after some specialization courses in Genetics and Law (2006), she obtained a Master’s in Sociology and Communication of Science at the University of Aveiro. She has worked in areas like digital media, innovation, and project management. Since 2009, she has been doing research on higher education. She was a member of the Portuguese team in the ESF-funded project Transforming Universities in Europe. Currently, she is the co-principal investigator of the project “Ethical Issues in Conducting Social Network Analysis Research in Health and Educational Settings.” She is a member of the Early Career Higher Education Researchers’ (ECHER) network. Her main topics of research are ubiquitous knowledge and education, sociology of science, social networks, ethics and research, diversity in higher education. Yurgos Politis completed a four-year Physics degree at the University of Athens and qualified as a Physics teacher. He undertook a Master’s in Education and a PhD in Physics Education in University College Dublin. He has taught at both the second and third level and has been a teaching and research assistant and/or postdoctoral researcher in the Schools of Physics and Education in UCD, NUI Galway, UCC, and IT Tralee. He is currently a post-doctoral researcher on three EC-funded projects: 1) ESRALE (http://www.socio.uvt.ro/st-educ/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Flyer_ESRALE_version01-1.pdf), 2) COMMIT (http://www.eucen.eu/COMMIT), 3) Inclusive Learning (http://www.inclusive-learning.eu/project). Previous significant research work he was involved in includes The Academic Profession in Europe: Responses to Societal Change (EUROAC) project and the European Commission MORE2 project. Dr. Politis secured funding from ESF to host a colloquium in Dublin (13-14 April 2013). He is a founding member of the Early Career Higher Education Researchers’ (ECHER) network that was established in 2011.
Bojana Culum has a PhD and MSc in Higher Education from the University of Rijeka, where she works as Assistant Professor. Her main research interests cover higher education and civil society, university third and civic mission, university role in local community development, and changes in academic profession. She is engaged as a leading researcher in project Academic Profession Competence Framework: between New Requirements and Possibilities (APROFRAME), funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. Her teaching follows service-learning pedagogy and covers themes in education, didactics, civil society, evaluation research, and qualitative research methods. She has been a member of the National Committee for Volunteering Development, appointed by the Croatian Government. She has initiated the membership of the University of Rijeka in the Talloires Network and has been appointed as a university representative. She is a member of an executive committee of the Early Career Higher Education Researchers’ (ECHER) network.
