Description & Coverage
Description:

Despite the development of advanced methods, models, and algorithms, optimization within structural engineering remains a primary method for overcoming potential structural failures. With the overarching goal to improve capacity, limit structural damage, and assess the structural dynamic response, further improvements to these methods must be entertained.

Optimization of Design for Better Structural Capacity is an essential reference source that discusses the advancement and augmentation of optimization designs for better behavior of structure under different types of loads, as well as the use of these advanced designs in combination with other methods in civil engineering. Featuring research on topics such as industrial software, geotechnical engineering, and systems optimization, this book is ideally designed for architects, professionals, researchers, engineers, and academicians seeking coverage on advanced designs for use in civil engineering environments.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Diffusion Model
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Heuristics Algorithms
  • Industrial Software
  • Modelization
  • Site Planning
  • Soil Structure Effect
  • Structural Design Criteria
  • Structural Health Monitoring
  • Systems Optimization
Reviews & Statements

“All structures have hidden structural capacities that must be exploited, in parallel all methods are scalable, the objective is to know the limits in terms of structural capacity, and calculation, in order to have conceptual and modeling gain, this can only be achieved with optimization.”

Editor/Author Biographies

Mourad Belgasmia is a Lecturer and Thesis Adviser joined the team of the Civil Engineering department of university of Bejaia (Algeria) on December 2001 as a lecturer (assistant professor), till 2008, Since 2008 till now with the team of the Civil Engineering department of university of Setif 1 (Algeria). He spent two years (from 2004 to 2006) at the laboratory of structural and continuum Mechanics at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, working then on seismic evaluation of existing structures and new structures using Pushover Analysis. And at several occasion since for shorter periods the work was mainly on approximate method for seismic evaluation of buildings this research is documented in two substantial internal reports. His responsibilities during this period in the laboratory of structural and continuum Mechanics at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology(EPFL) Switzerland (Lausanne) From July 2004 to July 2006 is Assistant of the implementation of new method in z-soil software. His teaching experience is Strength of materials, Finite element method, Continuum Mechanics, Steel Construction, Computer language programming, Structural Dynamic, Pre-stressed concrete. His research directions are seismic expertise, dynamic of structures, object oriented programming, xfem extend finite element method. Mourad Belgasmia is a book editor, (co) author of 18 papers in refereed international journals and more than 20 international conferences.
