For the purpose of the discussion, Artificial Intelligence has been defined as “any machine that does things that a brain can do”. Intelligent machines under this definition still have many limitations: we are a far cry from the sophisticated cyborgs depicted in the movies. These machines are not yet self-aware and cannot understand context, especially in language. Operationally, too, they are constrained by the historical data from which they learn and constrained to function within defined parameters. A major concern today is whether machines will occupy our space in the job market. Yes, they will. In the same way that many jobs ceased to exist since the advent of the Industrial evolution, it has also started to happen in the current scenario, but at the same time new jobs will emerge. The human being will continue to be necessary to act in a way that machines cannot, that is, through relationships, emotional intelligence, the ability to understand differences and adapt. And, instead of seeing Artificial Intelligence as our enemy, we have to understand that society as we know it will reshape itself, and human beings will be side by side with machines.
