Introduction
With the advancement of technology, systems are getting more connected and complex every day. This complexity makes the system design, modelling, and analysis harder than before. In many areas, due to the combinatorial nature of the problems, it is difficult to find an exact solution to a problem in a reasonable time. In such situations, where the number of possible solution to a problem is typically too large to use exact algorithms for exhaustive search, combinatorial optimization techniques are used to find the optimal solution in a reasonable amount of time.
Over the years, several metaheuristics such as simulated annealing and particle swarm optimisation have been proposed to solve the combinatorial optimisation problems. Penguins search optimisation algorithm (PeSOA) is a recently developed metaheuristics approach. This approach is based on the behaviour of the flightless bird Penguin. Since its inception, the PeSOA algorithm has been applied to solve complex problems in various areas. These application areas include, but not limited to, medical, bio-informatics, automotive and logistics. The most recent application of PeSOA was in the automotive industry. It was used to optimise the safety requirement allocation to different car’s components in the form of automotive safety integrity levels. The idea of applying the PeSOA was selected as the most discussed ideas from the automotive industry community and until now PeSOA appears to be fastest algorithm to find optimal solution to the safety requirement allocation problem in the automotive industry.

Objective
This special issue serves as a forum for facilitating and enhancing information sharing among researchers, ranging from the development of advanced optimisation algorithms. Researchers are invited to submit their original and unpublished research work for the applications of the Penguins search optimisation algorithm, other metaheuristics optimisation algorithms if they are compared to Penguins search optimisation algorithms and application (but not limited to) areas:
