Published Semi-Annually. Est. 2017.

Advancements in computer-generated sensory have made the concept of believable virtual environments a reality. With the availability of such technologies, new questions are raised as to how these technologies can be applied beyond gaming applications and how further improvements can be made to allow for full digital immersion.

The International Journal of Virtual and Augmented Reality (IJVAR) presents interdisciplinary research on the technological, social, legal, and policy implications of virtual and mixed reality integration and how the division between real and virtual worlds is becoming less distinct. Fostering interdisciplinary applied research and a unique forum for novel solutions for virtual immersion and mixed reality, the articles found within IJVAR are essential to the research needs of graduate-level students, researchers, and professionals interested in topics relevant to the digitization of everyday life.

The Editors-in-Chief of the International Journal of Virtual and Augmented Reality (IJVAR) invite authors to submit manuscripts for consideration in this scholarly journal. The following describes the mission, coverage and guidelines for submission to IJVAR.

The International Journal of Virtual and Augmented Reality (IJVAR) publishes research that focuses both in novel paradigms and in applied research that explores and extends the usage of the technologies of virtual reality (VR) and/or augmented reality (AR). The journal publishes novel and ingenious solutions dealing with real life issues in different areas of knowledge (from engineering to science or arts), including ad-hoc solutions. The journal fosters interdisciplinary applied research and presents a unique forum for novel solutions in the related fields, considering a wide range of techniques that includes e.g. mixed reality, simulation, human-computer interaction, collaborative spaces, multimedia generated contents, etc. IJVAR is designed to provide scholars, practitioners, academicians, and others using virtual and augmented reality technologies, useful studies that might support decision-making activities.

IJVAR is interested in research highlighting various VR&AR application domains that span the social and physical sciences. Topics to be discussed in this journal include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Virtual, augmented and mixed reality
  • Simulation
  • Real-time
  • Intelligent/Smart environments and cities
  • 3D interactive graphics
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Collaborative environments
  • Multimedia
  • Sound processing
  • Haptics
  • Spatial positioning
  • Image, video and signal processing
  • Video games
  • Serious games
  • Applied research
  • Sensors and displays

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit their original empirical research articles 3,000-5,000 words in length. Interested authors must consult the journal's guidelines for manuscript submissions at prior to submission. All submitted articles will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis by no fewer than 3 members of the journalís Editorial Review Board and 1 Associate Editor. Final decision regarding acceptance/revision/rejection will be based on the reviews received from the reviewers and at the sole discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.
