Abstract

Deepfake is a technology that enables the creation and manipulation of audio, video, and images, often leading to falsified content. Youths, as major social media users, are especially vulnerable to its risks. This study aims to explore the impact of deepfakes on social platforms and methods to counter misinformation. It covers the history and evolution of deepfakes, their potential for harm, and current detection techniques. Deepfakes have been used to spread misinformation, damage reputations, and manipulate public opinion, challenging societal trust and unity. Legal and policy frameworks, along with technological solutions like AI detection tools and platform-level safeguards, are being developed to address this growing threat. The paper underscores the importance of responsible content creation, awareness, and collaborative strategies to detect, prevent, and regulate deepfakes in the digital era.
