Abstract

Fog computing has made it possible to extend cloud computing functions to the network edge by assisting the cloud and users in terms of communication, computation, and storage with a widely dispersed deployment of edge devices or fog nodes. Smart grid (SG) networks are recently upgraded networks of interconnected objects that greatly progress the sustainability, dependability, and dependability of the current energy infrastructure. This chapter starts by giving a general overview of the architecture, concept, and key elements of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for the fog-based smart grid. Based on the machine learning techniques employed by the intrusion detection system (IDS), categorise the IDS solutions into nine groups. This chapter also recommends a user privacy-protecting authentication and data aggregation system for the smart grid based on fog. It is possible to offer anonymous authentication using short randomizable signatures and blind signatures, and then use fog nodes to handle billing issues after providing anonymous authentication.
