Abstract

Commercial sexual exploitation of children encompasses a range of crimes in which a child is sexually abused in exchange for financial gain or other valuables, such as a place to sleep. When a child is commercially sexually exploited, both their mental and physical health is impacted, leading to difficulties in social skills, education, and employment. Unfortunately, exploited children are often viewed negatively, and even when they seek help, their requests may be ignored. Many school officials, including nurses, principals, and teachers, are in a critical position to recognize exploitation and provide support. Trauma-informed practices are strategies designed to address trauma by fostering a safe and supportive environment. Implementing trauma-informed practices in schools is essential to creating safe spaces that provide appropriate support for these children. However, due to a lack of knowledge, there is often a lack of empathy, and trauma-informed practices are not effectively implemented to assist them.
