Abstract

In today's consumer market, many people are concerned about the environmental impact of the products they buy. Unfortunately, there's a growing trend of “green-washing,” where companies mislead consumers about the environmental benefits of their products. This not only deceives people but also undermines genuine efforts toward environmental sustainability. Consumer protection laws and regulations are in place to protect consumers' rights and ensure transparency in the market. Addressing greenwashing requires collaboration among policymakers, companies, and civil society organizations. Media campaigns, third-party certifications, and industry-level sustainability standards play a crucial role in promoting transparency and accountability. This chapter emphasizes the need for legal reforms and the enforcement of existing consumer protection laws to combat greenwashing effectively.
