Abstract

This study examines open correspondence as a form of media exposition, analyzing how diverse voices and ideological identities intersect within socio-cultural contexts, and exploring social media's role in shaping biases and influencing decisions. Focusing on stances regarding the 2023 Nigerian Presidential election, the study utilizes Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and the appraisal framework to analyze rhetorical strategies and argument structures. Findings indicate that digital discourse significantly influences perceptions of political outcomes, moods, and nuances, with social media functioning as a critical space for transcultural civic engagement. Additionally, social media can shape or distort social identities, especially where economic interests are involved. The study concludes that electoral predictions on media should be approached cautiously, emphasizing restraint in emotive public discourse to support peace and national progress.
