Sustainable tourism refers to sustainable practices associated with the environment, economy, and social aspects and should strike a balance between them to achieve long-term sustainability. The United Nations rolled out 17 sustainable development goals to protect the planet by 2030. On the other hand, the deterioration of tourism resources arises as a significant concern as they enter into the decline stage of the life cycle. Technological applications helped to tackle this deteriorating situation. One of the immersive technologies Virtual Reality aids in improving sustainable tourism and proved to be a suitable one for environmentally sustainable travel. The virtual tours of the vulnerable tourist destinations mitigate the threatening situation by allowing the destination to rejuvenate and thus contribute towards its sustainability.
