Abstract

The 21st century witnessed the development of every sector with the inclusion of big data application. Application of big data plays a pivotal role in academic research by providing information seamlessly. The advent of various technology, such as social networking, cloud computing, IoT, generates huge numbers of data. These data have the characteristics of high value large velocity, large volume, and great variety. The main objective of this chapter is to familiarize big data and its application, and the opportunity and challenges in an academic library. Big data is a set of huge datasets that cannot be adequately processed through traditional processing techniques. It is not only a data that has become a full-fledged subject that includes various tools, techniques and structures.
