Abstract

This article aims to explore the potential threat posed by AI chatbots to librarianship and advocate for a balanced approach to integrating AI while upholding human contributions.The chapter examines the evolving roles of librarians, chatbot capabilities and limitations, impacts from library professionals, and the irreplaceable value of librarians.The chapter suggest that while chatbots offer efficiency in handling routine inquiries, concerns arise regarding their ability to replace librarian expertise. Librarians remain vital for personalized assistance, advocating intellectual freedom and privacy, and inclusive engagement. Libraries should adopt a collaborative model leveraging AI to enhance efficiency while preserving the unique human qualities librarians bring. This chapter contributes to the discourse on AI chatbots in librarianship by advocating for a balanced approach that integrates emerging technologies with human-centered values, allowing libraries to progress responsibly.
