Abstract

The United States operates an all-volunteer military force (AVF), a cornerstone of U.S. defense strategy since its implementation in 1973. Despite its success, challenges such as declining recruitment rates and insufficient support for military families persist. The military lifestyle has its challenges; however, military-connected children face academic, social, and emotional challenges due to frequent PCS moves and parental deployments. A strong support system is necessary for military-connected children. However, research studies on their needs within the K-12 educational system remain scarce. This chapter explores the application of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) for military-connected children, advocating for targeted interventions that foster resilience, adaptability, and academic success. It examines the intersection of military culture, developmental needs, and the evolving landscape of family support.
