Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricate relationship between communication, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the healthcare sector. It explores how advancements in AI technology have revolutionized healthcare communication through Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs), offering new opportunities and challenges for both healthcare professionals and patients. The use of semantic networks to represent causal and temporal relationships in a patient's medical history and its benefit in providing valuable insights for healthcare providers is a key discussion point. The chapter also delves into Bloom's Taxonomy and the revised taxonomy by Anderson and Krathwohl that pushes the role of digital technologies in learning processes. The PABI-A SYSTEMS approach is also introduced for understanding communication processes. Thus, by embracing innovative communication strategies that emphasize the need for healthcare professionals to adapt to diverse patient behaviors and leveraging AI advancements, the healthcare industry can pave the way for a more patient-centered approach to healthcare delivery.
