Abstract

The objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of artificial intelligence (AI) in supporting the development of Mandarin language acquisition, specifically focusing on the improvement of reading proficiency in Mandarin for non-native Mandarin learners. The methodology employed an extensive comparative analysis of the audio data spectrum among the three distinct cohorts: individuals who are Malaysian native speakers of Mandarin; recipients of text-to-speech systems facilitated by artificial intelligence; and Mandarin learners who enrolled in a Mandarin program as a non-native language learner at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Through a spectrum analysis of the data collected from these cohorts, this study seeks to generate significant discovery delving with the efficacy of artificial intelligence in the domain of Mandarin reading comprehension. Moreover, this research aims to explicate the possible ramifications of artificial intelligence in the domain of language instruction, particularly regarding the involvement of native speakers in pedagogical capacities.
