Abstract

Research is only as good as one's proposal. It is found to be a more challenging job to guide for preparing research proposal than general project proposal and sometimes less formal as well. Some even argue that to implement the quantitative research accordingly, sufficient details should warrant a good research proposal. This chapter is aimed to propose a simple guideline for writing a research proposal designing in a quantitative research. In addition, it will help professional or academic researchers to develop good scientific research proposals for quantitative research design.

Definitions

What Is Research Proposal?

A research proposal is a concise and coherent summary of proposed research. It sets out the central issues or questions that intend to address. It outlines the general area of study within which the research falls, referring to the current state of knowledge and any recent debates on the topic. It also demonstrates the originality of the proposed research’ (University of Birmingham, 2018).

What Is Quantitative Method?

Quantitative methods emphasize objective measurements and the statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires, and surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical data using computational techniques. Quantitative research focuses on gathering numerical data and generalizing it across groups of people or to explain a particular phenomenon’ (Babbie, 2010).

What Is The Basic Methodology For A Quantitative Research Design?

There are no best way to conduct quantitative research but the overall structure is based on the scientific method. The basic procedure of a quantitative design is:

  • Is this an important issue? Is the problem common, serious or preventable?

  • Make sure that your selected topics/area should be something new, unknown or unexplained to your audience.

  • Hypothesize possible clarification for those issues.

  • Make a prediction of outcomes based on your hypotheses. Mention about statistical plan to test your prediction.

  • Collect and process your data. Verify your findings. Make your final conclusions. Present your findings in an appropriate form for your audience.

How To Write A Proposal For Quantitative Research?

The proposal should start with a title and author’s page, including the title of the study, the researchers and their affiliations. A title and the following sections are needed for the quantitative research proposal.
