Abstract

New technologies, new players, and new business models are evolving rapidly in the midst of the digital technology vortex. In the name of internationalization, universities' websites and social media channels are currently the most widely used information sources for target students. In this context, universities should utilize digital media to develop a comprehensive promotion, marketing, and communication strategy for their target groups. The use of digital media will enable higher education institutions to develop by allowing for more active and student-centered teaching. Furthermore, as part of providing flexibility and individualization of academic work with new student-centered learning styles, the use of digital teaching and learning resources will encourage international mobility. As a result of the rapid technological development of the economy and society based on digitalization, investment in digital infrastructure should be at the top of the priorities of higher education institutions.

Introduction

Digitalization is gradually changing the foundations of societies and economies in the process known as the 4th Industrial Revolution, and it affects many sectors, including higher education. information and communication technologies (ICT) regulations have developed rapidly globally and experienced a steady transformation in recent years (ITU, 2020). Universities need to adapt to digital transformation and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), machine-to-machine communication (M2M), and 5Gis fundamentals, to keep up with developments in technology, address new regulatory boundaries, and lay the necessary foundation for digital transformation to reach its full potential.

The rapid progress and change in technology have resulted in the transformation of the education sector, as well as other aspects of life. The traditional higher education structure has begun to transform into a digital higher education structure as a result of technological innovation. Individuals' education, knowledge, and skills are now among the most important factors determining their quality of life and standards. It is democratic societies' responsibility to provide the education they require, where they want, when they want, and how they want, at a quality and affordable price, in order to raise individuals' living standards (Duderstadt, 2001; ITU, 2021). In that regard, at a time into which knowledge is constructed too much, it can be vital to find out and utilize the useful ones (Durnali, 2018).

Durnalı, Orakcı & Özkan 2018 stated,

Developments in knowledge and technology bring distant proximity and distant societies’ closer; diversify activities across societies such as co-operating in education, facilitating communication and transport. A reflection of these developments is seen in higher education activities as well. Especially in order to contribute to the development of a country, sending students to another country with an advanced higher education system has been becoming increasingly widespread (p. 204).
