Abstract

This chapter embarks on dynamics surrounding the empowerment of women in the informal economy. The chapter analyses the context of women in the informal economy and shades light on the challenges they face in accessing financial services and credit. It also highlights the types of enterprises these women are involved in. The chapter acknowledges opportunities available to the women although they face challenges. It also highlights various empowerment strategies by drawing from a wealth of literature and empirical evidence, exploring avenues through which women in the informal sector can be uplifted through enhanced financial inclusion and improved access to credit facilities including giving possible solutions and recommendations.
