Abstract

In Czechia, cooperation between policymakers and academia is increasingly beneficial, addressing the need for expert collaboration in public administration. This chapter examines the partnership between the City of Ostrava and Palacký University Olomouc, highlighting best practices in smart city planning. Ostrava, a city with a rich industrial history, requested a geodemographic analysis to optimize citizen services. The authors employed spatial analysis, including cluster and spatial statistics, to identify geographic patterns in key characteristics such as age, education, and the workforce. This approach surpasses conventional methods, providing deeper insights into local disparities and urban district typologies. These findings helped Ostrava's authorities assess population dynamics and plan socio-economic activities, enhancing urban life quality.
