Abstract

Global environmental issues are a product of industrialization. In the current era, when there is a large consensus over the urgency to solve the puzzle of global warming and a return to a climate of the pre-industrial era as much as possible requires changing both the production and the consumption patterns of the modern world. This requires an integrated effort by both the public and private sectors backed by the regulatory environment and policy initiatives introduced by the international community. The current chapter provides an overview of the importance of green practices for the for-profit entities. It also stresses that going green is good for business by citing examples from successful conglomerates. It summarizes the steps taken by the international agencies and the governments to both facilitate and encourage the private sector to evolve into green enterprises. And finally, it discusses factors that can play a vital role in this journey, potential hurdles in this race and how to jump over these barriers.
